"Cathédrale" is the very first studio album of Opéra Multi Steel released in 1985.
Their music is based on sounds of analog synths and drum machines (Elex E, Roland TR606, Yamaha MR 10, Casio VL 1…)
Mixing acoustic instruments such as guitars or flutes and powerful melodic vocals, this formation creates this unmistakable and atypical sound that will be constantly developed throughout its important discography and that have sometimes been qualified as Medieval Minimal Wave.
"Cathédrale" is the band’s founding album, both a tribute to Bourges cathedral, which cradled the member’s childhood and an hymn for distancing ourselves from the various dogmas that fractured the world. The lyrics, written by Patrick L. Robin, balancing between hermetism and situationism, leave an open door to the interpretation of each one without ever deviating from an undeniable poetic power.
This album includes several standards of the band, "Cathédrale" of course but also Un Froid Seul, Franz est Mort or Du Son des Cloches… This reissue is the opportunity to rediscover those songs in their original versions on the medium that saw them born, packed in a sleeve designed in order to respect the atmosphere developed at the time.
